Lemon is rich in citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C and bioflavonoids, pectin and limonene, all of which strengthen the body’s defences and fight against infections. Here are some of the reasons why you should consider drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning:
Helps Digestion
Lemon helps the liver produce bile and acid necessary for proper digestion. Its richness in vitamins and minerals allows it to eliminate toxins and waste from the gastrointestinal tract. Lemon is useful when it comes to relieving heartburn, abdominal distension and flatulence. Warm water with lemon is also excellent to stimulate the bowel first thing in the morning.
Depurative and diuretic
By increasing the amount of urine in the body, lemon juice helps eliminate waste and cleanse the urinary system. The elimination of toxins is accelerated with the consumption of warm water.
Boosts the immune system
The high vitamin C content in lemon juice helps to strengthen the immune system and fight infections. Vitamin C has effective anti-inflammatory effects in the treatment of respiratory diseases and promotes the absorption of iron into the body. The potassium in lemon also stimulates the nervous system and controls blood pressure.
A skin cleanser
Because of its high content of vitamin C, lemon has traditionally been used to erase wrinkles and lighten spots. It destroys the bacteria responsible for acne. Consumed in the morning, lemon juice helps provide clear and radiant skin from the inside out.
